I am absolutely horrible at reviewing things (music/books/films/etc). I can never properly articulate what is in my head into words as eloquently as I would like to.

Anyways, this really isn't a review...it's mainly a post about how I am massively obsessing over the new Maccabees album. To simply put it, it's AMAZING. 'Given to the Wild' is the type of album you listen to on your bedroom floor, with your headphones on and your eyes closed...giving it your full attention. Equal measures melancholic and saccharine, it's a great album to listen to on a afternoon rainy day with a cup of tea (cliche, I know...but sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon to me).

Thanks to Abby's recent praise of the film 'Cracks'...

"It's a like a sexually charged film noir version of A Little Princess"

...I decided to watch it.

My friend Abby describes this film a bit more elegantly than I would. If I were to describe this, it would be something like, "it's like a fucked up version of A Little Princess with a bit of Lord of the Flies on the side..."

I can't say it'll be a new favorite mine but the cinematography alone makes it worth a view.

Well, I haven't updated this thing in a minute.

I've sort of dropped off the radar for a bit. Okay, I really dropped off the radar.

I am currently back in Kansas City until next Wednesday. I am shooting Kanrocksas tomorrow over Lollapalooza...don't ask...

I am excited to see the following: Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Eminem, The Black Angels and Best Coast.

It seems like most of the country is suffocating under a nutsack of heat. Not interested.

My hair always looks a hot mess, like pictured or is pulled back into a bun. I just don't even care what I look like this summer. If I could go around wearing basketball shorts and a racerback sports bra, I would. I really really would.

In other news, ever since I let my social life go down the drain, I've been spending time ~~reflecting~~ sitting in my underwear, eating junk food and watching awful television. So far, I've finished two seasons of Vampire Dairies and a season and half of Pretty Little Liars and I may or may not participate in watching Keeping Up With The Karadshians marathons on E!...I've also seen the following in theaters this past week; Captain America (did anyone else nearly pee their pants seeing the teaser trailer of the Avengers film next year? just me? okay...), Friends With Benefits (better than No Strings Attached and a lot cuter than I thought it was going to be), Crazy, Stupid, Love (ehhh...I don't know, it had it's moments but I was still left feeling underwhelmed. I still plan on having Ryan Gosling's babies though...)

On an unrelated note, I am really into this song right now.

I need to escape.

If not the inner workings of my over analytical brain, then this place.

You'd think with the excessive traveling and the constant moving would be escapism enough.

Yet, the problem with running away, escaping...you are still there.

Recently, I've come to terms with being by myself. Well, rather trying not to idealism what it would be like to have a group of close friends. I always think it will change which each move. I think to myself, "this time it'll be different". Of course, it never is and inevitably I am disappoint. Not with others but myself. Self-deprecation sets in, as well as the depression. And the one word that is etched into my mind is "why".

Reflecting on the past 6 months, hell the past two years, it becomes more apparent that I can't go on like this forever. Pretending. Pushing away the ones I love, accepting chaos into my life. Allowing myself to spiral out of control, buying into the madness, the hype...self-sabotaging, hurting others, disappointing others, not giving people the chance to see the Patrice that isn't this crazy, intense "rager". A title that I never bothered to dispel from people's thoughts on me. Mainly in fear that if I wasn't this person that no one would ever want to be friends with the person who I truly am. Which clearly has done me well because I still feel as isolated as ever. There is only so much you can drink and so many drugs you can take before those toxic remedies can't even nullify the pain your feel inside. So you continue pretend. It's easier. Hide your sad eyes. Act outgoing, wild, crazy, anything to disguise your distain for it all, the sadness. Give that seemingly genuine smile and nod you have perfected over the years. Stick to simple topics. Nothing too deep. Only the basics. Don't talk about politics or books. Break up the monotony of your voice. Smile again. Have a few more drinks and then a few more. This should help you talk more comfortably. Talk absolute nonsense that is...

It's a conflict that never truly ends with one's self. Being brave enough to be yourself or being what you think others want you to be or even what you think you should be.

It's wasted effort really. Either people will take to you or not. Yet, I can't help but feel that at my age it's harder to try and make friends. Everyone already has their small circle of friends they've known for a while and they really aren't accepting applications for new members. Sure you'll hang out with these people and at best, have a mediocre conversation but you'll never really be apart of the group. You'll always sort of feel like you are on the outside looking in. You'll never try and learn more about them nor will they try and learn more about you because again it's easier. It's easier to keep everything superficial. The less people know you about you the better, the less you know about other people the better. It sort of let's you off the hook doesn't it?

So, what have I decided to do? Cut and run! No, just kidding. Maybe...

I spend most of my time working, working and oh yeah working. Then I come home to my room filled with moving boxes (moving on to move number 16), find something on Netflix to watch and/or devour one of many books I buy each week. (I am almost finished with The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby by Tom Wolfe. Really good read.)

I am back doing work for the ACLU and Oxfam. I've been running 5k's for various organizations, biking riding and continuing to suck hardcore on the drums. Okay, maybe I can eliminate "hardcore" but I still am not the greatest.

Maybe I'm a bit happier this way. Well at least this is healthier for me. Removing myself from the equation. Sure it's easy to say "Don't care about what other's think of you or say about you" or my personal favorite *note sarcasm* "just do you!" but really I don't care WHO you are, what others say and think of you does affect you in someway. Especially when it builds up overtime. You can only be strong for so long...

And when everyone doubts you or is rooting for you to fail there's only so much hope you have left to hold onto.

Sometimes you just have to move on from it all...

Scrolling through my News Feed this morning on FB, I stopped to read Sean Lennon's intense retort to some person's blog comment on the New York Magazine blog.

In what way am I to dress exactly that would please you? Has it occurred to any of you insightful people that I was in fact hired specifically because, and in order to dress in a rock and roll fashion? It was my bloody job to dress crazy that day, and frankly I enjoyed it! It doesn't mean I'm a bad person, it's just more fun than wearing flannel.

And it certainly doesn't make any of you better than me that you choose to read so negatively into my outer appearance. You are just bigots disguised as moralists.

I feel no need to apologize for dressing in a manner that you deem unacceptable for someone so despicable as myself. One need not apply for a license or be a professional couturier to have permission to dress as they please. One need not be the most successful, or the most loved, or the most suave or the most handsome, just to wear a pink bow-tie, a bowler, and an old coat. This is not Prussia, or Victorian England.

I am sorry that you are all so vacuous as to think you understand me simply because you dislike my clothes, that you think I have committed some criminal offense in having had a wealthy and successful father.

I will continue to make music and dress as I please, and none of you have any right to tell me I cannot or should not. You of course have a right to hate me for it, but then again, it's you who have to live with yourselves for being such judgmental idiots.

Erm, so I guess you want to know the recent happenings with me? The two latest things for me has been going to Nashville and like I stated in a previous post, being in the ISM Community book Still Developing (which you should buy, just saying). Some awesome people that I am grateful to call some of them my friends are in it! Matt Maust, Matt Wignall, Zoe Raquel, Kevin Staniec and Zoe Anastasia all have contributed. Then their is the lovely Giuliana Petoia who graces the cover! The photo was taken by the genius Matt Wignall.

Anyways, I went to Nashville for a week towards the end of December until the beginning of January. I had a rather good time, I don't know what I was expecting but it was completely different than I had imagined. Alright, FINALLY the last installment of the NYE plans. A little late but whatever. I hope everyone's plans were a success and that everyone had a great safe new years, spent time with good friends and had an ace time doing so. Also I hope everyone danced their little hearts out and had plenty of magical moments. Oh and of course got their swag on and whipped their hair back and forth as much as possible. And hopefully got to kiss the person they wanted at midnight!

Not going out the night before, but on the occasions when I do, I tend to spend the next day having a "carpet picnic" on the carpet in my studio. I bring all the blankets and pillows from the house and set up camp in there to watch movies all day on my computer screen.

People are drinking the required champagne at mine, then into town to watch the fireworks, possibly stopping off for a drink on the way, then on to a party at our favourite pretentious bar. Perhaps some tacky dancing at the Mexican club come seedy den next door when we're royally slaughtered in the am. Then winding down with a first-of-the-year sunrise cigarette before all passing out in someone's house.

Disposable (I am too self-aware hip (read: poor) for a digital..). Glitter because I have become obsessed with it lately and it’s nice to find it sprinkled about the morning after. ID. Mascara/Eyeliner. Brush. Phone. Tobacco etc. And chapstick of course.

A nice remix of I need a Dollar by Aloe Blacc or something of the sort (I'm assuming that as I'm the dj I actually have the skills to do this..) because I reckon everyone could love that.

Vodka soda and lime…for some reason we convinced ourselves it's the healthy hangover-immune beverage to drink. Maybe some whiskey in a hip flask for warmth during fire-work watching. In fact whiskey and ginger ale to wind the evening down is perfect.

As I am firmly committed to my spinsterdom there are no non-celebrities on my radar. I have to say, much like most of the female populous, James Franco is seeming more appealing than ever (we can forgive him the failed foray into literature...)

Bail back to someone's flat for quiet drinking and smoking until we submit to sleep.

Drinking water like a fish, Sainsbury’s basics prawn mayo sandwich and copious amounts of black coffee.

I swear I am going to post the third NYE post soon (I know it's so ghetto to still post them since the time has passed) like tomorrow. You know how it is, after the holidays it's time to play catch up and start planning your first quarter. I think for some of us, SXSW is our main concern and working on new projects. And this is just the beginning. I am afraid to see what everyone will be like once Festival season actual starts.

My friends vetoed my plans for a night in with a big lasagna, bottle of wine and Jools Holland so I am going to the genius if not distastefully named Barrymore's Pool Party. (non-brits, it's a reference to a loved TV star who was disgraced when a guy was found dead in his pool after a party. yeah..) luckily no water is actually involved.
