June 25, 2013

I'm an animal just like you.

I am really behind on keeping things updated on here. Here are some photos from my times in Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver (where I saw Arctic Monkeys and visit with my longtime friend Kelsey and her adorable cat Laika), Lawrence and St. Louis, where I spent time with old friends and made some new ones along the way. Got to see and hang out with my favorite monks, Foals.

This is just a scratch on the surface of some of the photos I took. Sadly, I did lose my disposable camera somewhere along the way, at least I had only taken like 5 photos on it but still...it's always sad when you lose a roll.

more photos soon from all my adventuring...

May 28, 2013

You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham

So, I am currently in Denver visiting one of my close friends Kelsey. It's been tradition for quite a while for us to see Arctic Monkeys together every time they come anywhere close to us. And by I mean anywhere close to us, I mean anywhere in the US. Come on, we've been fans since 2004. Now, that is dedication, or stalking. The line there is blurred.

Anyways, so I've been sick for the past two weeks which has been BEYOND awesome due to all the traveling I've been doing and never sleeping. My body is finally saying "awww hell naahhh" to my "can't stop won't stop" motto. Before I left for Denver I developed a stomach bug on top of the cold I've been trying to kick for a while. This morning I woke up feeling like death. So the majority of my day has been spent lying around the apartment with Kelsey's crazy yet lovable cat Laika.

This is what the afternoon has been like.

*UPDATE*

I finally decided to try and make my day somewhat productive and not mopping around the place like I've lost my long lost lover in the war.

I have to get into gig mode, so I can relive my teenage years at the gig tonight. Love that Kelsey and I are going to be the oldest broads up there surrounded by 16 year olds with Xs on there hands...

Rumour has it that the guys have been resurrecting "Dancing Shoes" and "Fake Tales of San Francisco". If this is true, I should probably wear some Depends to the show, because I will pee my pants. Most likely do to my water consumption but whatever...

February 25, 2013

there's a drumming noise inside my head

Since it's apparent I can't stay still, after terribly playing on a friend's kit and another friend's motivation to get serious and obsessive with my drumming, I've decided to dust my kit off at home. My neighbors will surely hate me more once I pull my baby into the house and start practicing from my room.

Also, I'm learning guitar. Yep.

So, either hashtag all future things #pray4patrice (in fear of me burning out and/or losing my mind) OR #cantstopwontstop (for obviously being so in awe of how I am managing all that I do without passing out from exhaustion *please note sarcasm*).

grew up at midnight pt. 5

(ph. Malia James)

Your current location:

los angeles.

Where/how will you be spending NYE (bar, club, friends house, etc)?
the amazing friends I am staying with are throwing a big party.
What is the one song that really gets you ready to go out?
I tend to listen to pretty chilled out music before going out. I love throwing something like "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" on the record player.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure song of 2012?
I don't really get guilty about music, i feel guilty enough about other things. But i do get that "somebody that i used to know" song stuck in my head and it drove me nuts. And in 2012 I really got into Niki and the Dove "the fox" and "mother protect" which I played often and on repeat which probably drove the neighbours crazy.

What are your going out essentials?
good friends, perfume (tom ford), a camera of some sort, the number of a local cab company and sunglasses incase it is light when I head home.

(ph. Malia James)
What is the one song that always gets you on the dancefloor?
Bruce Springsteen: Born to Run
What would you spin if you were the dj?
I'd probably ask  Dan Mancini to dj "with me" and then  just enjoy what he was playing.
What drink will you be holding throughout the night?
Champagne

Who do you wish you could kiss at midnight (celebrity or non)?
Two people come immediately to mind, one is personal and the other is Eddie Vedder... ( teenage crushes never go away) He is about two feet shorter than me, but as i said to Malia a while back... he's short in stature but tall in talent.

What do you do after the party (go to another location, go home and crash)?
In London I'd end up out all night rampaging from one late night disaster to another or probably end up trying to sleep in the lobby of The Groucho Club. Here (thankfully) i'll just have to slink off to my room.

Your hangover cure?
sadly only time heals. :(
What are you looking forward to most in 2013?
that's a big secret.

Malia

Your current location:
LOLs Angeles

Where/how will you be spending NYE (bar, club, friends house, etc)?
Two of my favorite people are taking me to an intimate party at a stranger's house.
What is the one song that really gets you ready to go out?
Tonight, I'm listening to David Bowie's Changes
What is your biggest guilty pleasure song of 2012?
I feel no guilt over the music I listen to.

What are your going out essentials
My phone.... so I can Instagram.
What is the one song that always gets you on the dancefloor?
Love Man by Otis Redding
What would you spin if you were the dj?
I'm best suited to DJ a pajama party or maybe an orgy. I like playing slow sexy songs like "The Singer" by Nick Cave.
What drink will you be holding throughout the night?
I do love a glass of champagne.
Who do you wish you could kiss at midnight (celebrity or non)?
Samuel Preston..... or Bob Dylan in 1966
What do you do after the party (go to another location, go home and crash)?
This will be an early one for me. I'm in prep to shoot a music video next week.
Your hangover cure?
Not getting wasted.

What are you looking forward to most in 2013?
Romance, shooting a lot, and touring the world with Dum Dum Girls.

Dee Dee

Your current location:
 my Upper East Side apartment
Where/how will you be spending NYE (bar, club, friends house, etc)?
I'm not sure yet; champagne at home and then either Motor City or Heather's as friends are djing both spots.

What is the one song that really gets you ready to go out?
It really depends on the situation. I expect Siouxsie and the Banshees tonight.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure song of 2012?
I don't think in terms of guilty pleasures anymore; just whether I like it.

What are your going out essentials?
Heels and eyeliner.
What is the one song that always gets you on the dancefloor?
Anything by Biggie or Slade.

What would you spin if you were the dj?
All sorts. I got hired to DJ at Mister H at The Mondrian recently and was fired only ten minutes into my set.  Management hadn't told the night's promoter I had to play top 40 in consideration of the hotel guests so my Lush, Cocteau Twins, and Rowland S Howard selections did not go over well.
What drink will you be holding throughout the night?
Champagne then lemon water.

Who do you wish you could kiss at midnight (celebrity or non)?
My mom.

What do you do after the party (go to another location, go home and crash)?
It takes a lot to entice me to go anywhere but home.
Your hangover cure?
Marijuana and coffee.

What are you looking forward to most in 2013?
Ch ch ch changes

Myself

your current location:
somewhere in the Midwest.
Where/how will you be spending NYE (bar, club, friends house, etc)?
Originally Nashville, but thanks to mother nature blessing us with snow and ice, I’ll now be at home watching the Twilight Zone marathon and reading generic mass text messages at midnight and not gonna lie, I might be in a onesie...
What is the one song that really gets you ready to go out?
"Darling Nikki" - Prince, "Edge of Seventeen"- Stevie Nicks, anything No Doubt.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure song of 2012?
“Boyfriend” – Justin Bieber, “I Knew You Were Trouble” – Taylor Swift, I don’t feel guilty about it either.
What are your going out essentials?
Camera(s), iPhone (gots to be instagrammin’), iPhone charger (all that instagrammin' drains your battery) red or berry lip stain, practical shoes to dance in.
What is the one song that always gets you on the dancefloor?
"Dancing On My Own" - Robyn
"The Bay" - Metronomy

What would you spin if you were the dj?
My tastes are all over the place, so my set would be a hot mess of 90s baby making jamzzz, Three 6 Mafia, Prince, Tears For Fears, New Order, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, The Smiths, Crystal Waters (well, 90s dance in general), and WHAM would somehow get in there...the list could go on forever.
What drink will you be holding throughout the night?
Gin & Tonic then Champagne then water

Who do you wish you could kiss at midnight (celebrity or non)?
Oh there is someone…but I’ll settle for any of the following: Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gaspard Ulliel. Then there is my puppy, Atticus!
What do you do after the party (go to another location, go home and crash)?
Definitely home, shower and crash. Shower depends on the level of intoxication and/or pure laziness…
Your hangover cure?
Water and advil before bed and in the morning, toast, lots of coffee, some more advil and some more water

What are you looking forward to most in 2013?
World domination

December 25, 2012

i only smile in the dark

(this photo was taken on a completely different day than the previous post.)

Sometimes I feel like Doug Funny. I wear a variation of the same thing everyday as of late because I am too lazy to think of outfits nor have I've been really buying too many clothes (I know, right?). And how can you go wrong with a black skinnies, a leather jacket and a top? Sometimes I like to get wild and wear my peacoat and/or throw on a scarf like pictured.

This photo somehow fits the way I've been feeling and the music I've been listening to lately. Going through a major Sonic Youth, Sleater-Kinney and Garbage phase (a post about how Dum Dum Girls and myself met Shirley Manson back in August shall be posted soon!). I was definitely meant to be a teenager during the 90s.

this song, well Sleater-Kinney in general, always gets me jumping around. Janet  fucking Weiss just killing it on the drums.

this song causes some serious hair whipping, whether in the car or around the house. Come on, just read the listen and read the lyrics and tell me this is the best song to listen to as you drive to work or school or wherever. Basically one of the best "FUCK YEAH!" songs.

and to conclude with a little Sonic Youth.

Slacking on the outfit posts. I have them, I just forget to post them. Here is a moody one from Christmas Eve as I ran around playing Santa. Note the sexy bags under my eyes. That took some WORK. Working 60 hours a week is super fun. Can't wait until the holidays are OFFICIALLY over and I have somewhat of a life back. And by having somewhat of a life back, I mean locking myself in my room and watching Beverly Hills 90210 until I can no longer stand it. Which I am guessing as I enter the 7th season...I mean I have to see when Kelly gets addicted to drugs!

Beanie - H&M men's department
Leather jacket - Target
Hoodie - American Apparel
Tank - Topshop
Necklace - f21
Skinnies - Urban Outfitters
Boots - ALDO

oh mein m

I have A LOT of photos from over the summer that I have yet to share from my time of being an "honorary Dum Dum Girl" as Miss Malia put's it.

I was a long-time fan before being lucky enough to finally see them live back in Febuary, but after spending time with them and them not only allowing me to photograph them live but trusting me enough to photograph them behind the scenes and tag along on some of their adventures, I went back home having three new heroes (if you have been reading my blog or know me in real life, you already know my relationship with Malia, therefore she was already a hero/mentor/friend before she joined the band to me). These girls make me want to practice my instruments more and start a band myself. If only I weren't so lazy! My drum kit whimpers in the garage from neglect.

Here are some photos of the girls getting ready before a Chicago gig and photos that might be included on a series I am currently working on.

Enjoy!

August 10, 2012

still alive

I know I've been MIA, but I am still recovering from Chicago (Lollapalooza and hanging with friends), going to St. Louis twice (JEFF the brotherhood and Dum Dum Girls) and I have spent my three days back at home trying to catch up on sleep, working on photos (on my broken laptop, which has been SO much fun), all while still working at my day job. Exhausted is an understatement. Although, Chicago was rather stressful, I am glad I got to catch up with as many people as I could and for those I didn't get to see, I'll be back soon.

Tomorrow I am off to Omaha for Maha Festival to see my mates of Dum Dum Girls and Delta Spirit play. Should be fun.

Anyways, here is a preview of photos to come soon (btw, these are all mobile photos, taken and edited on my phone). I can't wait to share my proper photographs with everyone very soon.

I feel I'll never get tired of seeing JEFF the brotherhood play. Just too fucking good.

Malia warming up before taking stage at Lollapalooza.

Jules just looking like a badass as usual.

more updates to come.
follow me on instagram (patricesharon) for daily postings.
