dreaming in french

Right now I am reading 'Dreaming in French' by Alice Kaplan. I'm only a few chapters in but it is completely engrossing. Kaplan profiles three young remarkable women on their journeys to Paris in the 50s/60s. This book has me constantly jotting down notes in my journal so I can go back and look up the books they were reading during that time and various passages about how they felt being an young American woman abroad. I can already say that I highly recommend this book.

Yes, I was infatuated with you: I am still. No one has ever heightened such a keen capacity of physical sensation in me. I cut you out because I couldn’t stand being a passing fancy. Before I give my body, I must give my thoughts, my mind, my dreams. And you weren’t having any of those.
