current state

this has been me the past week or so.

i've still been reading ferociously and will soon post about the books I've read the past couple of weeks. So far, I've read 4 books and I shall post what I've read and what I am about to read next very soon.

Insomnia is the reason I am able to have so much free time to read.

Also, I am currently obsessing over the song"Paradise Circus" by Massive Attack.

I was recently tagged by my friend Jaclyn to do 10 random facts about myself.

So here we go:

1. I have moved 15 times in my 23 years of life and will be going on 16th and possibly 17th by the end of year.

2. Unsolved Mysteries used to scare the shit out of me when I was younger (even during the daytime slot), and I am sure if there were still reruns on, I would need to wear some adult Pampers to get through an entire episode.

3. I could live off coffee/tea and toast.

4. I'm incredibly indecisive. This is probably why I feel the need to carry so many different cameras on me.

5. I am a sucker for the following: care packages, cupcakes, a damn good black cup of coffee and mixtapes/CDs

6. I am really into The Kennedy Family and I have probably seen every documentary on the History Channel about them.

7. I have the taste buds of a 5 year old. I usually eat in because going out to restaurants terrifies me. I hate displaying my freakish ordering and eating habits, especially to those I do not know that well.

8. I have over 250 DVDs and I just downsized...

9. Although, I love the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, I ADORE the Kinks.

10. I think Clint Eastwood is one of the most badass motherfucker's alive.

(who said I had to stick with 10??)

11. I still buy the newspaper everyday, more specifically, the New York Times.

What are some random facts about you guys? And any questions for me? I am thinking of doing a part two of this very soon.

the moon ain't romantic, it's intimidating as hell

"champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends" - Tom Waits

I've been listening to a lot of Tom Waits lately. Real talk.

My friend, Kamni, took this portrait of me whilst I was in Brooklyn. I quite like it (and I don't like too many photographs of myself, but truly, who does?). I think it represents me perfectly. It's completely raw; unmade up, dressed down, completely myself, and chilled out. If I remember correctly, that day it was snowing and absolutely beautiful outside. I cherish those days, where you can sit inside, drink a cuppa coffee or tea, and chat with your real friends. Nothing more, nothing less.

i think i better run run run

On Saturday I ran my first 5k for Be1/Big Brother Big Sister.

It was an extremely challenging run. I haven't ran a proper race since high school when I was involved in track.

The grass was extremely muddy and the hills were intense but I managed to finish in 34 minutes. Definitely not the time I had in mind, my goal was 25-30 minutes but I finished (and I wasn't dead last) and that was what mattered the most.

I can't wait to run another race.

A Place To Bury Strangers/The Big Pink

April 2009

This was a really great show. I've seen APTBS several times now and they are always great. It was my first time seeing The Big Pink, and the really surprised me and put on an amazing show. The drummer of The Big Pink, Akiko, is most adorable.

The Big Pink

throwing darts in lovers eyes

I was recommended recently to watch Christiane F, since I have been lacking inspiration for taking photographs lately.

I liked Christiane F a lot, absolutely loved how it was film. Many of the frames were like a perfect photograph.

If you rent it, make sure you get the German version and not the English dubbed, either way it's still worth a watch. As an added bonus, all the music in the movie is done by David Bowie.

Here are some of my favorite stills:

After watching the film, it just made me want to pull out my David Bowie albums and shake my hips around my room. And possibly start wearing socks with my peep toe mary-jane heels from here on out? Not go sell body and get hooked on "H".

a few of my favorite photos of Bowie:

I may consider reading Bowie In Berlin after I finish the book I am currently reading. Looks like my Bowie obsession is about to kick again, right. about. now.

Here is a video of We Barbarians single "There's This There's That"

If you haven't already taken a listen to their music, maybe this video will convince you to check their stuff out! So great. You won't regret getting into this band.

in the doldrums

Today will consist of me making cinnamon scones then lying around, listening to records, drinking tea and reading books.

I finished the Jean Rhys book and am stuck between wanting to read:

Keep The Aspidistra Flying by George Orwell

or

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe

Lastly, how ADORABLE are these dresses from the line Twenty-Seven Names? I'll take both please.

now the haze has ascended and it don't make no sense anymore

Last month, my friends and I saw JEFF the brotherhood in St. Louis.

Let me tell you, it was an interesting night.

Pre-gamed it, listened to The Sonics and then Black Lips on vinyl and did the twist (most underrated dance, I think), saw JEFF play, went to a party, then went to Uncle Bill's around 2-3am for pancakes.

Here are the photos:

Chloe, Julia & Julie
And at some point of our drunken haze, taking photos in bathroom was necessary. Because girls can't go to the bathroom by themselves, we go in pairs or groups.

feeling it?
I am posting these photos, so Chloe doesn't feel alone in the using the bathroom shots. Both photos were taken by Chloe.

(we are as classy as they come fellas.)

And fear not, good people of St. Louis, Uncle Bill's is now open 24/7. Incase you were losing sleep over it. And ask for Shirley when you go, because she rules. May have taken 10 years to get my toast but she still rules.
