you can't hold me down, I belong to the hurricane

I know it's been a while since I've done a post. Things are rather insane here in the best way possible. Just finish one of many mis adventures. Chicago and NYC was tiresome yet a lot of fun. It was great to see old friends and make some new ones in the process and manage to get work done as well! This is only the beginning.

I am still debating on whether or not I will be going to SXSW this year. From a financial standpoint, it seems like a completely crazy thing to pull off at this point. SOOO, if any bands want to take me or someone would let me sleep on their floor or couch...just saying.

The next two ventures looks like Los Angeles and possibly Atlanta. I'm excited for both and then I'll be attending Austin Psych Fest, which I am very excited for.

Anyways, I have tons of photos to share with you guys, plenty of stories and just posts in general.

Until then, big big love.

keep the change you filthy animal

SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS!

I can't wait to see these lovely lads again soon (they are headlining the US this winter)!

I mean, come ON! Could they be more adorable, talented and just all around get guys. Again, so much love. The Maccabees have to be one of the nicest bands I have had the pleasure to start to get to know.

drifting to the corners of life

Can't wait to see these boys again in two weeks with Florence & the Machine! I'm beyond excited since Catalina is coming down from Chicago for the weekend. Definitely in need of some proper fun. We are going to dance until we can no longer feel our legs and sing until our lungs give out.

saw a glimmer from the way beyond

I've been tiptoeing around making this post about seeing The Maccabees last month in NYC for a while now....so many emotions leading up the show, during the show and after the show that I don't think I can properly write about that night without sounding like a major fangirl. Plus, it was one of those nights where you just want to keep certain aspects to yourself or close friends because it was just that magical.

"Some things are hard to write about. After something happens to you, you go to write it down, and either you over dramatize it, or underplay it, exaggerate the wrong parts or ignore the important ones. At any rate, you never write it quite the way you want to." - Sylvia Plath

It was nice to let loose that night. It's been a while since I've been to a show that I was SUPER excited for. You know, in a way that you are counting down the days, you are getting butterflies in your stomach, it was like when I was first going to gigs for pure fun as kid. Those good ol' days where I would skip school or leave early to queue up hours before the gig actually started because I HAD to be upfront to see my favorite band. After several years of this "lifestyle" of traveling and seeing shows for work rather than pleasure, it was a breathe of fresh air.

It was nice to know that I wasn't becoming completely numb to the experience of going to shows. I wasn't backstage barely paying attention to the show because I had seen the band a million times and/or it didn't really matter if I was upfront or not because it was a band I was super into. I wasn't there to take photographs for anyone, I was there for myself. I was there to get lost in the brilliance of this bands music and performance...dance, sing every lyric, make heart signs, feel young again, be wild, feel alive, be free. And goodness, what a magical evening it was.

I can't wait until I see them again in October with Florence & the Machine. Although the show won't be as intimate as the Webster Hall show in NYC, I am excited nonetheless and even more so since my friend Catalina is coming down from Chicago to see them with me.

If you haven't seen The Maccabees live yet, you need to put that shit on your bucket list.
Their music will change your life and their live show will blow your mind.
You'll walk away with a little bit of your heart missing because those lovely lads stole a piece of it.

Here are some photos from that night. Taken with disposables, my film SLR and iphone...
You can see some polaroids here and here.

luv u

Really into Casually Here at the moment. Everyone should check him out and like the facebook page. Definitely looking forward to the full length due out this year.

Also, Casually Here just did a remix to The Maccabee's "Feel To Follow" which should be awesome.

You can pre-order the 7" here.

given to the wild, given to the wilder ways

I am absolutely horrible at reviewing things (music/books/films/etc). I can never properly articulate what is in my head into words as eloquently as I would like to.

Anyways, this really isn't a review...it's mainly a post about how I am massively obsessing over the new Maccabees album. To simply put it, it's AMAZING. 'Given to the Wild' is the type of album you listen to on your bedroom floor, with your headphones on and your eyes closed...giving it your full attention. Equal measures melancholic and saccharine, it's a great album to listen to on a afternoon rainy day with a cup of tea (cliche, I know...but sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon to me).

My favorite tracks at the moment...

Forever I've Known
"i want to see you...it's not good enough to have you here in my head"

Slowly One
"every little loving word said out of love, growing cold..."
I could seriously listen to this song on repeat for hours.

Glimmer
"just a glimmer, from the way beyond...but you're lost today"

this is just too good.

so how many tears must fall, when we all play a part and we all could do more

I keep debating if I like this collaboration or not. I know this song and video is old news but still...

Definitely really like the video. The beginning is a bit slow but it gets better at the 2 minute mark.

I like Roots Manuva and I like The Maccabees, so you'd think this would be a wicked collaboration. What do you think?
